'you're doing a recital? why??'

May 14, 2008 at 6:26 AM

If any of you have any words of wisdom in my last week of preparation for my recital, particularly when it comes to getting through an entire Bach sonata or partita by memory and then still having the rest of the recital to go on and play, your input and advice would be muchly appreciated!

The blurby thing under the calender along with my poster can be seen here:

Greetings,
I think I understood correctly that you are startiung with the Bach. I woudln`t persoanlly. If you can get a piec eor two in first it can help, though either wya I am lookign forward to hearing of your great success.
The key at this stage is the mind and stamina. In the case of the former cann you run it though from end to end and see/feel all that you are doing. or alternatively play it through as a shadow perfromance without the insturment. Either way will expose what you don`t know as well as he rest.
Fr stamina make sure you can play through the whole work three times ina row. then the whole recital...
For nerves, get rid of them now. Vizualize yourself performign in fronyt of an audience in a hall until you have ratched your nerves up to the nth degree. Do it so many times the perfroamnce itslef is routine. the mind/body is only willing to spend a limited amount of time getting nervous about the same thing.
And for ehavens sake do your run throughsd in your performance dress.
Cheers,
Buri

Yeah, I want to start with the Bach. It's a nice introduction I think and I'd rather play it while I'm focused and fresh!

I don't think I'll be able to do my dress rehearsal run through in the hall with my dress :( The dress is too big to get on the bus and to the school in one piece but I do have an hour in the hall before my recital begins!!!

Kelsey,

What Buri said is great and remember… it's all about the music. Everyone in the hall is there to enjoy the music and your playing — you should do the same.

Step into it and present the music as a present.
