Well, I haven't been a very conscientious blogger. It is over a year since my last entry.

Still, today needs to be recorded, as I have been discovering all kinds of new approaches to playing and practising over the last couple of months, in part thanks to Buri, but also through my listening to Kreisler's playing.
Today I had a breakthrough in playing two lines a third apart. As my main work is in improvisation, now the challenge is to be able to play improvised lines in thirds.

Two hints were very helpful: 1) from Ricci (via Buri)playing thirds in glissandi using the same pair of fingers, and 2) from Szigeti (on the violin), focusing on the finger making the whole tone shift, and allowing the semitone finger to take care of itself.

These ideas seem to work, because this afternoon, after just an hour or so, I could hear that I should be able to get this technique to work in a jazz context.
