Do you guys think a violin life is worth it? I practice the violin 4 hours a day and im only 14, i can see that i have no time to do anything. This is what i must do to become good and i accept that. I also, don't mind practicing because when im older it will be worth it. When you think about how much you miss out though, and is all that time of your life practicing the violin is worth it. I also, see that you won't have time to go date, and meet other people, do things, and many more. For example Michael Rabin. What are you guys opinions or thoughts about this.
This is a tough issue for all musicians who aspire to make it their life's work. As a parent, I would be concerned about a child who did nothing but play an instrument. Someone your age needs some other experiences -- sports/social life/something else -- just to grow as a person. You have to figure out how to fit some different activities in, at least some of the time. Whether this means practicing a bit less or rearranging your schedule, you should give it some thought. Good luck!
I agree with Tom, there is more to life than only playing an instrument. You need to have friends and spend time with them. Just because you love your instrument does not mean it has to be your whole life.
I suggest you get involved in activities at school like student council, yearbook, plays, etc. If you aren't comfortable participating in school sports, then try to join a club team such as those at your local YMCA or through your parks and recreation department in your city. Is there an activity you would like to try such as cross-country skiing or fitness swimming?
It's not healthy for you to go to school all day and then sit in your practice room for the next four hours. You need physical activity and social time with kids your age.
