The Golden Rule of Orchestral Bow Hair: You know that if you didn't break any bow hairs during rehearsals, you will break 5 or more during the performance.

School version: if a student in your 4th grade class breaks a bow hair, suddenly at least 2 more students will also "break" a hair. Or three. Accidentally, of course.

It's far better to break a couple of bow hairs than to break one violin string.

why have I never break any bow hair before? Am I not playing hard enough? I never break any strings, and I don't intend to, ever!
