Go Aussies!!!!

June 12, 2006 at 3:19 PM

Tim Cahill 84' and 89'
John Aloisi 92'

And with those three goals, Australia registered a historic first world cup finals victory over Japan, 3-1. And the whole of Australia was watching, cheering on our boys in the game that we have been waiting for since November when it was finalised that we got into the finals.

It's 11:17pm at the moment, and luckily I don't have anything on tomorrow morning, because my adrenaline levels are far too high for me to sleep. Lucky Bram who has all the matches are a fairly respectable time, here in Western Australia, the earliest matches start at 9PM.

But anyway, Go Aussie, Go!!! This gives us such a great chance to make the second round, and has sparked the life into Australian Soccer.

Hahaha I saw the end of that match. Great stuff, but what the heck has Harry Kewell done to his hair?? I rather gleefully watched my beloved Czech Republic run all over...um, the United States today. Are violinists allowed to be soccer geeks? We should start a World Cup thread. :)

Congrats to the Aussies, it's a great accomplishment.

Bounced by the Czechs. Oh well. Watching it was slightly more fun than a root canal. The bright side is that our guys were so outclassed that they shouldn't waste any time second-guessing anything.

Mitchell,
Yeah, you and my dad. He looked pretty depressed by the end of the match today. This is why I support the Czechs... :)

To compound matters, the U.S. coach dumps on his top players in the press. Nothing like stabbing your guys in the back when they're down. Of course, the guy at the top bears no responsibility. Ring a bell?

hahaha good point! Of course today I'm worried sick about Milan Baros and Jan Koller, both top players and both injured pretty badly. Koller should be all right but there isn't even any real information anywhere about Baros, just that he's pretty worried. I bet Czechs will still win the group anyway. :)

Yeah, those guys are top players. But the Czechs look very good in this round and can probably get away with resting them if they need to. But I think if they move on to the next round they may be facing Brazil, which of course no one wants to do.
