It's so hard to practice when my parents are home. My mom doesn't like to hear me for more than an hour and after that she says,"are you done yet." Now, she likes to hear me play but hates to hear me practice cause well, who honestly likes to hear someone practice. It just isn't music to her and it drives her crazy. So, in other words I only got about 1 hour of practice in today but oh well.
I am sorta working on the Bruch Vln Concerto by myself cause I hope my new teacher will let me do it cause I honestly think that the de Beriot will be kinda easy for me and I will learn it rather quickly. I already did pieces of that level and higher. But I have never done an official romantic concerto. Still, from what I have seen of the concerto on CD Sheet Music, I could probably learn it in a month or less (maybe 2 weeks if I can get my 5 hours a day of practice in).
You should practice in the garage or somewhere way away. There is plenty to think of without worrying whether you are bugging your mom. I had that situation as a kid and it REALLY cramped my style. You need the freedom to practice as long as you want to. Schools also have practice rooms, and churches might let you practice there. Worse comes to worse, you can get a practice mute to quiet it down, but the tone suffers. Keep on keeping on, it is definitely worth pursuing.

That's a good suggestion about the garage, but it's either 100 degrees in there during the summer or 40 degrees in there during the winter. It doesn't matter so much anymore, I head to college in less than 3 weeks and they have about 150 practice rooms so I'll never want for practice space, lol.

Wow, it's very rare (for me) to hear of parents not liking their child's practicing. My mom usually bugs me about not practicing enough, much less practicing too much. Is there some place else you can practice in, like a school or church (the the other's recommended)?
Anyway I hope you find somewhere where you won't have people criticising your practicing. Good luck!

Thanks. There really isn't a great place for me to go practice since I'm not in High School anymore and my church is 15 miles away from my house. My parents are not musical at all (I can't even get my mom to match the pitch I just played using her voice)and before 3 years ago I barely practice so she doesn't quite understand that I need 3-5 hours of practice now cause I always didn't do it. Luckily, the only time they are home is on the weekends so weekdays I can practice all I want and not have to worry about it. My parents always thought the violin was just a hobby, but they do like to hear me perform at church and at orchestra, but the process of getting there is what my mom doesn't like to hear because it doesn't sound like anything to her other than me playing a bunch of crap.
