Well, this could be my next 4 years

October 5, 2005 at 6:21 AM

This is by no means complete or set in stone. I am presenting my teacher with a plan of repetoire for the next 4 years and I would just like some critiquing and also inform you all what is going on. The numbers are for the semester of the year I'm in at that moment, it goes year, then semester then title of the piece then the pieces composer. I realized it's a little hard to read after I posted it. Thanks, any advice is much appreciated.

You most certainly will have your plate full with this, especially if you are attempting to get all of these up to performance standard.

Seems like alot. Not doubting your ability, just thinking reasonably.

I think that you need to think less in terms of playing lots and lots of repertoire, and moreso that you can get your technique and musicality up to par. I'm a junior performance major and I have played:
Kreisler La Folia
Khachaturian
Mozart A Major
Bach sonata g minor
and am currently finishing up the Bach and working on Lalo.

But I've also done something like 20 Kreutzer etudes, Schradiek etudes, Gavinies, etc etc... and now that my technique is pretty solid, I'm learning thing so much faster, and can learn things on my own easily.

Also, if you are planning on playing the entire concerto, it's going to take at the VERY least two semesters (it took me three semesters to get the Mozart A Major, and I learned so much from it). It's much better to learn repertoire slowly and really make each one a valuable learning experience.

Take this with a grain of salt, though, as I'm not your teacher.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I am for the most part doing only 1 movment at a time per semester and just kinda moving like that. My teacher for the most part liked what I had written and actually my spring semester of my Sophmore Year I will be doing all of the Mozart A Major, we decided that. I'm doing the Bruch next semester and then Wieniawski over the summer. I am doing all of the Kreutzer Etudes actually, that is what she wants me to do. We are attempting to have them last about 2 lessons each and right now I'm on No. 4 with her and doing No. 5 on my own because she told me to do so.
