Any good music for four violins only?
I and three of my friends (only violins) are asked to play on a charity ball next year. We will probably play Hellmesberger's Romance but apart from that, we have found it very hard to find any music at all. Do you have any ideas?

I just spent 2 hours searching for music for 4 violins, and only then it dawned on me to check here.... DUH!!! 10 seconds later, I have the whole list.

Although this piece is a Concertante for 4 Violins and Orchestra, there is a dazzling unaccompanied cadenza at the end that would make for a rousing finale or encore.

IF you want something amazing but not so easy. Grazyna Bacewicz wrote a piece for 4 violins. Absolutely fantastic. Look it up.
Another great one is Telemann's Concert in D Major for 4 violins. I was first violin at a summer music camp, it's a really fun piece to play.

Look up Medici Music Press, they have a handful of baroque pieces. Also Gearhart's Fiddle Sessions. You could also look at trios and add a "bass line", especially if there is a piano part to work off. Doesn't hurt to consider a couple of duets with 2 per part. With the close harmony required to fit 4 parts into the violin's range, a few duets or trios give the listeners' ears a break and adds variety. Sue
