Starated making violins in 1999 as a hobby to see if I could do it. Was a mechanical engineer during my working career so could work with fine measurements.
First three instruments were made from cheaper woodsl and the fronts of #1&2 were from the sound board of an old piano. The fourth violin was constructed from good European stock and sold shortly after it was finished.
To date I have made 48 instruments. From 1/16 to violas with four 5 strings.
By #14 instrument I decided to carve the bass bar into the top and find that the sound of the instruments have become more sweeter regardless of the humidity changes. Amati and the Strad school guys did their's like that.
Yes I am self taught!
