Michelle Kim

Los Angeles native violinist Michelle Kim is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she received her Master of Music degree under the tutelage of Axel Strauss. In addition to performing with numerous orchestras and chamber groups throughout Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York, Michelle enjoys performing in all genres and styles. Michelle has shared the stage with Mike Patton at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco, with rock band Chicago as a part of the Magik*Magik Orchestra, Mercury Soul with electro-acoustic composer Mason Bates at After Hours in Davies Symphony Hall, and has performed under the baton of Daniel Tosh for Comedy Central’s TV Show Tosh.0.

Throughout her musical education, Michelle has been fortunate enough to receive guidance from eminent musicians and pedagogues including Sir Simon Rattle, Roy Malan, Eugene Drucker, Ian Swensen, Bruce Dukov, Mark Sokol, Scott Yoo, Stephen Rose, Erin Keefe, Mark Fewer, Steven Moeckel, and members of the Ying Quartet. Festivals include Colorado College Music Festival, Orvieto Musica Chamber Music Festival in Italy, Mendocino Music Festival’s Emerging Artists Program, Sierra Summer Music Festival, and Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. Prior to her studies at the San Francisco Conservatory, Michelle received her Bachelor of Music degree at California State University Northridge, where she studied with long-time teacher Michael Ferril. During her time at Northridge, she participated in the National Exchange Program where she spent a year in New York City studying with Lewis Kaplan at the Juilliard School. Other principal teachers include Aimee Kreston and Muneko Otani.

Passionate about teaching, Michelle maintained a studio of over 40 students during her tenure in San Francisco. Her students have won the highest Distinction award for ABRSM exams, the world's leading music exam. She is currently accepting students in her studio in Los Angeles.
