Scott Rankin

I had my first violin lesson in 1967. I'm a semi-professional violinist in that I earn a good, regular income from performing but not enough to live on, although I've always worked either as a performer or as a high school music teacher.

Most of my performance has involved celtic based bands and I'm currently focussed on Scottish style celtic rock, playing with a highland piper through a massive PA. My orchestral experience is limited to my student days though I'm hoping to rekindle this during 2010. I've also played in a lot of pits for musical theatre. Some of these were professional gigs. Other recent activity includes some studio recording for a soon to be released CD.

My instruments include a German trade violin after Carlo Bergonzi c. 1880, a Yamaha silent violin, and a recently bought Strad copy made by Liu Xi in Shanghai.

I also sing, (bass/baritone) in a chamber choir and occasional opera and musical theatre productions, all amateur.
