Kristin Garson
First of all, my maiden name is Kristin Knudsen, for any of you out there that may recognize that name! I started the violin when I was 10. I didn't think I'd like it, but I fell in love with it right away. Growing up in Nebraska there weren't many opportunities to study with great teachers, so I was very grateful to be able to study with the great pedagogue Paul Rolland at the National Academy of Music in Champaign-Urbana, IL during my last 2 years of High School. Unfortunately, the school no longer exists.
Then I had the great fortune to go on to study with Don Weilerstein at the Eastman School, who was 1st violinist of the Cleveland Quartet at the time. Don Weilerstein is such a unique and incredible genius on the violin and has influenced me tremendously to this day. Burton Kaplan of the Manhattan School and David Arben of the Philadelphia Orchestra also were great influences.
