Emil Khoury
I play and teach Middle-Eastern Violin (tuned as GDGD). The most prominent features of Middle-Eastern music are: (1) the incorporation of the quarter tone (as opposed to the half-tone system in Western music) and (2) the incorporation of modes that are much different from Western scales or modes (Major, Minor, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, etc).
