Violist, Arranger, Editor, Teacher

German born violist, Christoph Emmanuel Langheim began his musical studies at eight years of age at the “Freie Waldorfschule” (Steiner school) in Frankfurt.

Langheim received his university diploma in viola from the Frankfurt Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, after which he continued his studies under Chaim Taub, Thomas Kakuska, violist of the Alban Berg Quartet, with the virtuoso violist and composer, Michael Kugel at the Musikuniversität Wien, at the University of Tel Aviv and at the music conservatory Maastricht.

He discovered and developed his ability as arranger in the extra curricular composition classes of the composers Gerhard Müller-Hornbach at the Frankfurt Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Noam Sheriff at the music academy Tel Aviv and Christian Ofenbauer at the Musikuniversität Wien.

During his studies he played in several orchestras, the All German Youth Orchestra, NDR-Radio Hannover Philharmonic and as principal violist in the LJO-Hessen and the Jeunesses Musicales World Youth Orchestra.

In 2001 the conductor, Riccardo Chailly selected Langheim as principal violist with the Orchestra Sinfonica ‘Giuseppe Verdi’ di Milano. Here he was presented as soloist in live broadcastings for RAI-Radio 3.
Currently he collaborates with such orchestras as the La Scala Philharmonic, La Scala Theater Orchestra, the Arturo Toscanini Symphonica, Lorin Maazel, Conductor, the national Radio symphony orchestra of RAI-Torino and as guest principal viola with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Lately he works as chamber musician with the Ensemble Midt Vest in Denmark. Chamber music activities include performances at the PRO Festival in Rolandseck in Germany, the Wiener Musikverein, the Auditorium di Milano and live-recordings for RAI-Radio 3 and various Radio stations in Israel.

In addition to his perfoming activities Langheim has gained teaching experience giving privat classes at almost all times for violin, viola, basics of music and eartraining.

Presently, Mr. Langheim tours with his wife, violinist, Hagit Halaf, in solo duo performances. 2007 they performed with their String-Duo at Carnegie Hall in New York.

Due to the co-operation with the music publisher "Ut-Orpheus Edizioni" Langheim started lately to appear also as editor, especially for string-duo music.
