Lauren Canitia is a graduate from the Conservatory of Music at Wheaton College
(Wheaton, IL), where she earned a Bachelors of Music with an emphasis in Pedagogy. She teaches Suzuki and traditional violin and viola, and has worked extensively with the Suzuki program at the Community School of the Arts at Wheaton College. Lauren is certified in the Suzuki Method and Musikgarten, and is a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas as well as the American String Teachers Association. She has studied violin with Wei-Shu Wang Co, Paul Zafer and Lee Joiner, and did her Suzuki training with Rebecca Sandrok. While teaching violin to young children, Lauren often incorporates her Musikgarten training.
Although Lauren's passion is teaching, she frequently performs in the Chicago suburbs with the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra, in local churches and various other locations. Lauren has students of all ages and abilities. Her most advanced student is in the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra. Lauren also teaches a group violin class and a small choir for a local homeschool group. Lauren is an active member of her church (Sovereign Grace Church, Oswego, IL), and has a heart for reaching homeschooled students, as she was homeschooled herself! In her spare time, Lauren enjoys researching her family history, writing letters, drinking coffee and photography. She also enjoys playing chamber music with friends, and listening to Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin.
