This afternoon, I went over to Sapp Violins to continue my journey in selecting a new instrument! I was there for two and a half hours, and how he helped me select was I had three instruments to play with, and then I'd eliminate two and get a couple more. I think there were seven violins I tried, and there were three main ones I particularly liked: one Stradivarius model that was the first to go, one older violin made in Vienna, and one violin that was the first I truly fell in love with and none others compared to it, an instrument made in 2007, I don't think by Sapp, but they refurnished it or something... If I end up choosing it, I'll have to ask about its history... This violin is a more reddish instrument with some faded colouring on the back. It feels a little lighter than the instrument I've had, too. However, the important thing is how well it sounded, and as I played I found it was not only the easiest to hold, but also the easiest to produce a beautiful tone. The Vienna violin was very muted that I found I did not like, maybe similarly to the violin I rented from Sapp in July. This violin is so much warmer than the bright sound I get out of my own instrument, and it doesn't have a sort of "white noise" that sort of comes with it. Obviously, since mine is a student quality instrument, all of the instruments I tried at Sapp were at least somewhat better, but the violin I chose to take home and trial run it for a week or two I fell in love with at first glance, really. It was the first one I tried, too... So yeah! Just a little part of what could be the history of my new violin, something that I will continue to love. I think having this new instrument will light the flame and passion of not just playing violin, but also music in general, and it will really help me be extremely happy every time I take it from my case. I will update again once I've made my decision, as who knows how I'll think when I pull this out, maybe tomorrow morning!
