New Violin Day!
Well, I showed the violin I had borrowed from a shop to my teacher. It made her smile. She sad “If you like it, buy it”.
I played a similar violin owned by a friend. She wanted half as much money for it as the shop’s violin would cost, and projects a little more, a tiny bit cleaner. It may be the age, it’s 11 years older. So, I bought it from her. The bridge had to be straightened at the Violin Shop, now it sounds even better.
While in the other store, where I had returned the other violin, I was looking at some bows on a table. One told me “Pick me up.” I didn’t know it was made of pernambuco wood. It was light as a feather. I couldn’t put it down! So I brought it home for a trial. I don’t know he price yet, but with the money I saved on the fiddle, I think I can afford it.
Between that and beginning to learn to shift, I think I had a productive day.

Andrew F, she muttered a number, it was something like “285”. Madison knows I’m not rich. Anything under $500 for a bow is acceptable, to me.
I played the new violin with it last night, and had fewer bounces. It could be psychological…..

The friend who sold me her violin played it today, and said “wow, it’s louder now.” I think that’s because before the feet of the bridge weren’t in full contact with the violins top.
She had her Hopf violin with her, pretty old (the fiddle, not her) and its bridge was leaning toward the scroll. After I adjusted it for her, I played on it. It was a cannon! I told her I’d go deaf in my left ear if I played it a lot. She was happy. She was even happier that I loaned her a ukulele to play with. She is attending my workshops next month.
