I just came across this clip/preview of Hilary Hahn's documentary on youtube.com (Hilary Hahn - A Portrait)... I went to the website (nightfrog.com in the nonfiction section) and most of it is in German... and I couldn't find any signs of this being sold... I'm wondering if anyone knows about it because I really want this!
Hi Lauren,
the DVD-production of the portrait delayed a little bit, the phone hotline of the producer said, it will be issued in spring 2007 bilingually (german/english).
oh thank you so much for the information! I live in the United States and I do not speak German... so a bilingual version would be amazing!
that's great news for me, too. I can't wait to get the English version. Hopefully it will available through amazon.
Belgian Public TV (Canvas; the Dutch speaking part) will be broadcasting this on saturday (in fact they already did it one year ago; not sure if it is really true and if they didn't make the mistake not changing it from last year's announcement)
It is for sale right now everywhere !!! Hilary Hahn a portrait, DVD ,Deutsche Gramophone...I bought it but have not view it yet.

Also available at CD Universe for $22.19
This is easily one of the best recorded violin DVDs i've come across. Sound quality is excellent. Hahn is amazing. Her "warm up" with the Bach blows me away. Forget Milstein/Heifetz (kidding, sort of). Korngold concerto, Lark Ascending, and music from "The Village" also featured and are superb. I'm less impressed with the Paganini - not sure it really suits her (she's more in her element with long lyrical passages). My only criticism is that i wish there were more on this DVD - I couldn't get enough!
thankfully there is more on the DVD! it includes in a separate section from the main documentary two movements from the Mozart sonatas and the entire Korngold Concerto.
The Korngold Concerto is pure heaven. i just watched the whole first movement absolutely mesmerized. How can any historic recording or DVD compare to this concert performance (with the Berlin Phil and Kent Nagano and that unbelievable Vuillaume)??!!
Ms. Hahn is playing with the Chicago Symphony this week (the Goldmark Concerto). Unfortunately, I can't get to see her. The reviews in the paper are excellent. On the radio today, the CSO is having their annual fund-raising marathon on WFMT-FM, and Ms. Hahn was at the microphone with the announcers for about an hour. She was articulate, down-to-earth, and extremely personable and friendly. She talked a little about her practice schedule and how she plays scales and the like, but it was a wonderful and informative hour. They also played a few excerpts from her recent recording of the Spohr and the Paganini concerti, which were great.
i just received the dvd a few week ago. i believe it's entitled Hilary Hahn: A portrait. I think i found it on amazon for a reasonable price. good luck!
I'm so glad to read this! Long ago, I read that her DVD would be released in autumn, 2006. Off I go to amazon.com. No, it's cheaper at B&N, especially if you're a member.
It's available on Netflix as well.

October 12, 2006 at 10:00 AM · All I know is that it was a German tv crew that followed her around for about a hear. The whole docu is about an hour long and it aired on German tv in January 2005 for the first time. Since then I have seen seen it at least 2 times on schedule for a re-run. I know they played it in Cannes. That's where Hilary saw it herself. I know nothing about it being available on dvd. I hope it will be one day, also without German translation.
Where are you from? Do you speak German?
