i was wondering if any of you guys have had experience with William Whedbee instruments. He mostly makes cellos, but i found a violin of his that im trying out.
thanks!
I've sold two Whedbee violins in the last 10 years. Both we full sounding and responsive.
The lone Whedbee I tried had great response and a very sweet tone. However, it did seem to lack that extra gear when it came to power. The lack of power might have just been the model, though.
I'm playing a Whedbee's, it's good and fantastic.
I have a chance to try out/buy a Whedbee viola, I have no idea of the price range for his instruments, but the price is 10k, which some have told me is a steal. Is it?
Dan
I tried out a viola of his, and thought it was fantastic. Very responsive, not to mention, it was gorgeous. I think they're terrific instruments for the price. Do you remember meeting Charlie from my school? He plays on one too. Good Luck : )
I have a 1989 Whedbee violin. I love it! It has the biggest sound. I played it during my time at SF Conservatory and I often had inquiries about what kind of violin it was. Most people were shocked it wasn't a fine Italian instrument. The only sad thing is I am selling it to fund a new viola. Let me know if anyone has any interests in a great violin!!
I do! Tell me about it, please. Price? Characteristics? Proportions, esp. fingerboard (I have small hands.) There's a Whedbee on eBay, closing tomorrow...
I am a violinist with the Utah Symphony. I am currently selling a beautiful Whedbee that I have used for 10 years. (Only to purchase another one of the same maker that I liked even better). It has a big, rich sound. Our concertmaster and associate concertmaster also own and play Whedbee violins. Great instruments.
