Other than Mozart's duet and the Handel-Halvorsen, what other duets are there for violin and viola? A friend and I are wondering if there are any other duets in the level of the two pieces above.
Hoffmeister,Stamitz, sphor and martinu all wrote violin and viola duets (but yea the martinu might be a little bit harder than the rest:):)). There are also some transcriptions of Bach...I've never played them but I'm guessing that they would be his two part inventions. Also if there's a piano in the mix (or if there can be) then your options are tons broader...so much rep. there I couldn't name it all...
Bruch wrote a Violin and Viola concerto I think... might not be what you're looking for (orchestral accompaniement, there's probably a piano reduction somewhere)
I have never heard the other two pieces, so I don't know what level you're talking about. It's probably way below the others level. Anyway I played the Pleyel duet for violin and viola.
Alessandro Rolla had several duets for violin and viola. There are also 8 short and beautiful duets by Reinhold Gliere.
Hi,
there's a lot more than most people are aware of. In addition to what has already been mentioned, there's violin/viola duets by Kalliwoda and Lidel.
You might find it helpful to look up the viola society's page.
There's also a book (unfortunately only available in German. The author's name is Konrad EWALD and he's from Switzerland - however, it could be available from Amazon or through intra-library loan. On top of that there's the work of Professor Zeyringer.

Apart from what others have said.
Haydn - 2 Duos for Vln/Va
Goldschmidt - Berceuse for Vln/Va
Klein - Duo
Sibelius - Duo for Vln/Va
Mozart - 2 Duos (plus some minor duets)
Handel-Halvorsen - Sarabande
The ones I can think of are by Pleyel (there are 3 by him), Rolla, Martinu, Bruni and Gliere. Then of course there are all kinds of arrangements, such as various Bach pieces like the 2 Part Inventions. Shar currently has a book of 15 Bach duets
The Bruch concerto mentioned above is probably an arrangement of his concerto for clarinet & viola (op. 88).
i LOVEthe Martinu duets...he wrote two, a duet and three madrigals. I have a recording of the madrigals and they're really beautiful...but probably harder to pull off than the Mozart duets.
ooh what does the sibelius sound like?
Visconti Variations for Violin & Viola, in four movements.

You can use the Browse Instrumentation/Genre facility on IMSLP to find all violin/viola duets they have:I think there is some arrangements of stuff like the Bach double violin concerto on virtual sheet music

Don't forget that Mozart wrote his to complete a set of six commissioned from Michael Haydn.
My favorite duo if you have the technique is the Three Madrigals by Martinu. They are wonderful and truly explore the sound possibilities of the two instrument. Heifetz recorded them with Primrose.
There are six by Joseph Haydn.
I know of two sets of three by Pleyel of which the first set is the easier.
Hi Grace,
