Violin and Clarinet duos

May 31, 2007 at 01:59 PM · Hi all,

a very good friend and me would like to play together chamber music this summer, for pleasure. We have thought in playing Khachaturian trio (with piano) or Stravinsky (The soldiers tale), but I would like to play something for only violin and clarinet too.

That's why I write here. Do you know any composition for violin and clarinet?

Thanks in advance,

Regards

Edmon

Also, my sister would play Mozart's clarinet concerto while I read off the piano part.

Good luck!

W.A.Mozart: Easy Duets K487

transcription for violin & clarinet

"Easy not simple by anonymous on April 29th, 2007

Easy does not mean simple, as a player for 25 years and a 'fiddler' for 2 years, the keys are great for violin, the phrasing and bowing marks make sense and the formatting makes reading a pleasure. The music is nonetheless challenging and entertaining to play and to listen to. If you are looking for pieces that are worth the effort to master without having to be a master then these are wonderful. I hope to find more pieces of this calibre. "

In Nomine (duet for violin and clarinet) (2001) by Steven Griffin

Category Concert

Genre Modern Classical

Duration 9 minutes

Difficulty Difficult/professional (Grades 7-8+)

Program note

This piece is titled In Nomine as the melodic material is all

contained "in the name(s) of" the dedicatees, Hector Scott and

Shinobu Miki. Some basic numerological technique was applied

to their names, resulting in each letter having a value of 1-9.

Those values were then given pitch names - 1=G, 2=A, 3=B and so on.

In some variations, the names are stated outright. In others, the

letters are jumbled up and ordered freely. In Nomine was first

performed at Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art on 6th April 2001.

The Scotsman reviewer, Kenneth Walton wrote the following (The

Scotsman 8th April 2001): “alluring contemporary sounds...

[an] interesting...[and]...imaginative theme and variations.”

June 1, 2007 at 12:21 PM · Presumably you could play violin/violin or violin/viola duos with that combination. There are plenty of those.

June 2, 2007 at 08:10 AM · The third movement of Milhaud's trio for violin, clarinet, and piano is written only for clarinet and violin. It is short, but very fun and personal. It is a jesting piece, like two kids having a good laugh.
