My new neighbor across the street plays the trumpet, heard me practicing, and wants to jam. I'd love to, but I'm nervous. I'm sure he's better than I am, as a musician. I don't want to embarrass myself. If we play something do-able, I shouldn't. But viola and trumpet is a pretty weird combination. What would sound good?
Chagenooga Choochoo. Seriously, we are playing that in a small strings group that invites friends and family, who happen to play other instruments, to join in.
I am trying to arrange the same thing. The President of the University I work at is a trumpet player, and we have discussed playing something at the next commencement ceremony.
The best I can come up with so far is the 1rst violin and trumpet parts from a few Bach cantatas (with a piano part as well) will work.
Concerto Parlando, you can find the sheets here. Shchedrin use to write entertaining music, maybe it's worth a try.
Rodion Shchedrin wrote a concert for trumpet, violin and orchestra or piano namedI think this thread just inspired me to write a piece for viola and trumpet. Thanks!

Wow, Clinton. That's quite a list. I've been looking for a violin/trumpet duet for one of my students and his brother, and the Telemanns might work. Thank you. Do you have any suggestions as to where I could get the sheet music?
The publisher of each work is given and with that information any good music dealer can order/import the score and parts of any work for sale.
You could order from Dale Music in Silver Springs MD. www.dalemusic.com
I find the best dealer/ importer for unusual publications is

When a work is listed as "on rental" or "on hire"
you then rent directly from the representative in your country of that publisher.
"Support music dealers and publishers or soon there will be no music published and no downloads available. I have no financial interest in any music company."
Thanks a lot, Clinton.

May 17, 2007 at 01:46 PM · There's Baroque stuff out there for undesignated groups of instruments that might work. I think you should just gather up what you have, figure out who's going to transpose (or use a techy thing like Finale to do it for you), and go for it. If you can add a third person on a chording or acc.instrument, that could fill in a lot of blanks and mellow out the tonal differences in the two instruments. If the person happens to be a great orhestral-style trumpeter, it might not be that huge a difference. Sue
