Does anyone know where I can find sheet music (violin part especially) for Ants Marching by Dave Matthews Band? The only music I can find are versions for guitar, piano, and vocals but I would like the parts for all instruments. I made a Rock Orchestra in my school and we made finals for Battle of the Bands and we really want to do this song!
LOL Brian. :) I do like the DMB though! At least *one* of our violin brethren is getting some cash...
I must say it is one of the coolest bands I have recorded with.
Dave Matthews made sure everything was done in the most proper way, where every musician was going to receive residuals for the recording. He was gracious, and said he always loves to comeback to Seattle. One of the nicest guys, really.
He and his band used a full orchestra for his "Some Devil" album.

November 18, 2006 at 06:06 AM · Let me save you some money. Ants Marching is F# A, then G A (D string against A string, the rhythm is obvious). The rest is the D major penatonic scale (d,e,f#,a,b,d...) in first position in 4 bar solos or some multiple of 4. In the songs I've heard their violinist doesn't really go beyond penatonic scales of whatever key they play in and stays in first position. When I saw them live he seemed to be in ecstasy (or on ecstasy) as he ran up and down the penatonic scale in first position in approximately 3 different keys while he shredded hair off bows I can't afford. I'm not knocking the band, they play some pretty cool stuff, I guess I'm just jealous that I can't find a gig that easy that pays millions.
