Minnesota Orchestra Changes Program to Commemorate Alex Pretti and Renee Good
On Friday the Minnesota Orchestra announced a special piece to be played at its weekend concerts in memory Minneapolis residents Alex Pretti and Renee Good, who were recently killed in Minneapolis by ICE agents.
Here is the concert:
The heart-rending "Adagietto" from Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 will open its Friday and Saturday concerts, in place of "The Sorcerer’s Apprentice" by Dukas.
"In light of the circumstances in our community right now, the program will open with the Adagietto from Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, instead of Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. We offer in in memorial for Alex Pretti and Renee Good - and we share it with love for our audience and our beautiful city on a program that explores the resilience of finding "songs to sing" amidst tragedy and seeing hope in darkness."
The program, led by conductor Fabien Gabel, also includes Principal Viola Rebecca Albers performing the U.S. premiere of Donghoon Shin’s Threadsuns Concerto for Viola and Orchestra, as well as Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun; the Prelude to Act III of Dukas’s Ariadne and Bluebeard, and Rousell’s Suite No. 2 from Bacchus and Ariadne.

On the other hand: I can't help thinking that the Sorcerer's Apprentice would be a perfect comment on the Trump administration.
That this concert happened in this way is a very powerful point of hope.
@Albrecht - I had exactly the same reaction. Good thought!
Alex Pretti and Renee Good are martyrs for our constitutional republic and for the hope and love at the root of all human solidarity. They have my gratitude and respect, and now so too am I grateful to the Minnesota Orchestra for their courageous stand against the rising forces of fascism and dictatorship.
I don’t know of any sane person who wants to see someone die. See what God has to say on that subject - Ezek. 18:32: "For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live" (ESV).
There’s another side to the Minnesota tragedies besides what the legacy media have given us. Regarding the above-mentioned fascism and dictatorship: Check out these 2 YouTube videos that showed up in my feed this past weekend. I’ve listed the run times for each:
