María Dueñas performed Korngold’s Violin Concerto with the Teatro Real Orchestra and David Afkham at Carnegie Hall.
- New York Classical Review: "... it was a perfect vehicle for the young Andalusian violinist María Dueñas to display her impeccable technique and the variety of colors she draws from her instrument."
- Operawire.com: "The violinist brought her signature intensity from the off, the vibrato wide and fast, the sound blossoming immediately. Her approach to that opening melody, which builds and rises to violinistic heights, had an urgency and relentless drive that you don’t often get from other violinists who prefer a more contemplative approach."
- Bach Track: "Still in her early twenties, María Dueñas offered a performance of rare self-assurance. From the opening bars of the Moderato nobile, she established a burnished tone, her phrasing supple yet assertive."
Jennifer Koh performed J.S. Bach’s complete Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin Sunday at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater.
- Washington Classical Review: "The experience showed more than Koh’s impressive stamina and prodigious memory: she is quite simply an outstanding interpreter of Bach’s music. "
Randall Goosby performed Florence Price’s Violin Concerto No. 2 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Sir Mark Elder.
- Chicago Classical Review: "Playing with a sweet, slender tone and ingratiating, communicative style, the violinist was fully in synch with Price’s intimate nostalgia and light virtuosity"
Johan Dalene performed Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Antonello Manacorda.
- Northampton Chronicle and Echo: "An incredible young talent, Johan delivered a breathtaking performance on violin, showcasing the instrument’s solo power but also sensitively conveying softer, more balanced and almost conversational passages with the rest of the orchestra."
Vadim Gluzman, Julian Rhee, Hina Khuong-Huu, Atar Arad the Ariel Quartet and others performed with the North Shore Chamber Music Festival.
- Violinist.com Day 1: "Music from another century - bursting with energy in real time - played live by world-class musicians in front of a packed audience - does it get better?"
- Violinist.com Days 2-3: "The final night of the Festival felt like a celebration of the young artists that Gluzman and Yoffe have aimed to support through their Arkady Fomin Scholarship Fund..."
- Chicago Classical Review: "The Ariel Quartet wholly inhabited Mendelssohn’s darker hues, maintaining remarkable energy and tension throughout their vigorous account."
