Lincoln Trio is nominated for a 2024 Latin Grammy in the category of "Best Classical Album," for Fantasies of Buenos Aires, its recording of trios by Argentinian composer Daniel Binelli.
The Chicago-basedRecorded in late 2022, the album contains two trios for piano, violin and cello by Binelli: Fantasies of Buenos Aires (2020) and Rainbow (2022). The album is dedicated to the late producer Ted Viviani, who supported the Tango Trio project and commissioned both trios.
In addition to being a composer and arranger, Binelli is a renowned bandoneónist and proponent of the music of Astor Piazzolla, having toured internationally as a member of Piazzolla´s New Tango Sextet, which he joined in 1989. Previously, from 1968 until 1982, he was a member Osvaldo Pugliese's Orchestra, for which he created many arrangements.
The Lincoln Trio was formed in 2003 and includes violinist Desiree Ruhstrat, cellist David Cunliffe and pianist Marta Aznavoorian. Previous albums include Trios from Contemporary Chicago (2022), Trios from the City of Big Shoulders (2021), Music from our Homelands (2016). (Click here for their complete discography.) They are currently visiting artists-in-residence at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and are Artists-in-Residence at the Merit School of Music in Chicago.
