Video Interview with Violinist Jennifer Koh: New Music and Doing What Scares You
"Our choices in life have the potential to change someone else's life," said violinist Jennifer Koh, talking with me in the interview below about the generosity of her first violin teacher, Jo Davis, the Suzuki teacher who started her on the violin at age three. That generosity had a lasting effect on Jennifer's life, and on her outlook.
This is just one of the many topics we discussed during her visit to Los Angeles to perform with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO). I wanted to share with you that video interview, which I did in partnership with LACO.
In the interview Jennifer also talks about her Grammy-award winning project Alone Together, about the pandemic and its profound effect on artists, and about the surprising way she met composer Nina Young, who become her pandemic "pod-partner" and whose Violin Concerto "Traces" she performed with LACO. She also talks about working with the musicians of LACO and bringing to life new music - something that was scary at first, but that she now does frequently, having premiered more than 100 works! And she answers the important question: is the Korean food better in New York, or Los Angeles?
Please enjoy!
