The Week in Reviews, Op. 344: Bella Hristova; Jennifer Koh; Leonidas Kavakos
In an effort to promote the coverage of live violin performance, Violinist.com each week presents links to reviews of notable concerts and recitals around the world.

Violinist Bella Hristova.
Bella Hristova performed David Ludwig’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra with Symphony Tacoma.
- South Sound Magazine: "The most engaging piece of the night was David Ludwig’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra. This composition strikes a personal note for Ludwig, not just that the married couple collaborated in the performance, but that the music documents some of Ludwig’s feelings, values and emotions around marriage."
Jennifer Koh performed Missy Mazzoli’s Violin Concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra.
- The Zebra Press: "Violinist Jennifer Koh, exquisite in cobalt couture, presented con brio the premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s Violin Concerto (co-commissioned by the NSO) with astonishing vibrancy and articulate expression."
Leonidas Kavakos performed Unsuk Chin’s Violin Concerto No. 2, "Scherben der Stille" with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
- Boston Musical Intelligencer: "Kavakos’s, lyricism, perpetual motion, muscular moves, extended techniques, and a host of demands, all hit expressive heights with a certain signature purity."
Joshua Bell performed with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
- Boston Globe (paywall): "Just one more exemplary performance from an orchestra that has been exemplary from the start.""
Jeff Thayer performed Joseph Bologne's Violin Concerto No. 9 in G major, Op. 8 with the San Diego Symphony.
- San Diego Union-Tribune: "In Thayer’s hands, Saint-George’s melodies floated exquisitely above the string orchestra."
