"Solace" Joplin rag, arrangement on IMSLP

February 18, 2026, 5:07 PM · Perlman recorded a set of Scott Joplin ragtime pieces sometime ago. He published 6 of them in "Ragtime for Violin (Six Scott Joplin Rags for Violin and Piano)". I enjoy the 4 that he didn't publish, as well, so I'm working on arranging them for violin and piano.

I finished the slow rag "Solace", and place the parts on IMSLP:

Look for the "Arrangement/Transcription" page, for "Violin and Piano".

It's a very pleasant, slow piece, with some nice double stopping, and even some challenging (for me) double stops on the last page; you need careful intonation. If you play video games, "Solace" may be familiar as the music used for the screen loading audio in "Bioshock Infinite". 😊

Actually, I had learned of the Solace song while exploring Joplin's other work, the Maple Leaf Rag, and I had been hoping that someone would make a violin version of the Solace piece ever since I learned its existence.
