Violin Short Term Storage

January 11, 2026, 10:19 PM · So, overdoing it at the gym has led to a right shoulder injury. One month of physical therapy did not improve my injury, so the next step is an MRI and my guess is some type of surgery based on what the MRI finds.

With the prospect of possibly not playing for several months, (4-6 months worse case), is there anything I need to do before or during this time to keep my violin in good working order?

Currently when not playing, the violin is stored in its case in a common room with heating and AC.

January 12, 2026, 3:18 AM · Sorry to hear about your injury. I had a similar break about six years ago, caused by shoulder stress. Physiotherapy sorted it out - luckily the therapist was himself a pianist and understood music injuries. I kept the instruments in tune, slightly below 440, and they did not seem to suffer. Best wishes, and let us know how you get on!
