The foam impression captures each player’s jawline contour. I 3D scan it, convert the model into CNC toolpaths, and carve a maple plate that reflects that shape with accuracy down to 1/3 the thickness of human hair. The wood plate mounts onto the standard kréddle system, preserving the familiar 5-axis adjustability of the kréddle.
I chose flamed maple because 1) it's beautiful as we all appreciate every day seeing as it's the main wood of the violin, 2) it's also one of the safest woods for prolonged skin contact, as opposed to ebony and rosewood which are known to be infused with irritating chemicals (for parasite protection). We're offering 3 striking colors to facilitate matching with ebony and rosewood fittings (though honestly, I love the golden maple option most myself).
If anyone has questions let me know. I'm unable to locate anyone else offering not just a "customized" generic shape, but a true and exact jawline impression carved into wood. I have to say, the first time I felt my exact jawline carved into a chin rest--well, my first thought was "this is surreal."
