First Time Performing Mendelssohn VC

October 27, 2025, 12:14 AM · Hi everyone!

I wanted to share this performance of mine from back in May. I did the first movement of the Mendelssohn Concerto along with the Bach Siciliana and Vivaldi B minor Concerto for 4 (No. 10). There were obviously some hiccups here and there, but I had plenty of fun.

I hope you enjoy! Constructive critiques welcome.

At that tempo, I think you have to get a little more exaggerated with some of the phrasing, which can give it a bit more sense of quickness and shape. Playing it a little faster I think allows more of a semplice approach where the phrasing kind of suggests itself because the tempo already has a flow to it, but I love how you keep a great singing sound throughout.

Cheers!

Advice to never allow an out-of-tune note in your practice, never. Having said that, you can be proud of the level you are at, after less than 5 years of playing the violin. Like Christian writes, your tone is good! Keep up the works! However, only perform pieces that you can play in tune. And never practice a measure if the previous measure was not yet in tune. If necessary work on "easier" etudes and pieces. Keep in mind that the Mendelssohn is a masterpiece, regardless of how many times you read on the internet that it is an "easy" piece. Emphatically, it's not.
