Spector mutes

Edited: September 24, 2025, 1:53 PM · I had a brown Spector mute, but eventually it became a bit loose on the bridge and didn't mute well.

I guess the D and A strings enlarged the grooves.

It didn't seem to take long for this to happen, but maybe it was long enough for it to be worth replacing regularly.

Or maybe the brown rubber is softer than the black rubber?

Currently I'm using a Roth Sihon. I like the sound it makes (I think I prefer the sound of Spectors, though), but I'm not convinced the Roth Sihon is 100% violin-friendly.

Anyone use Spector mutes much? Do you find they last long enough for you? Do you think the colour matters?

Is the Roth Sihon safer than it seems?

Never used one, myself. I use Paul Wiessmeyer’s composite mutes unless I have enough time and exposure to justify a leather one.
