September 12, 2025, 4:44 PM · Unfortunately I don't think the quality of an instrument has any bearing on the cost of a new bridge
September 12, 2025, 7:55 PM · My luthier charges around $150 to cut a new bridge. Maybe a little more now, I can't say exactly because when he did it a year or less ago he also put new Rondo strings on, so probably I gave him around $300 total....
September 12, 2025, 8:32 PM · I have bridge blanks that cost 5 bucks, and I have bridge blanks that cost me 40 bucks 20 years ago. I choose the quality of the blank based on the instrument. $150 is the minimum.

That said, a friend was headed to NYC last year and she needed a new bridge and asked if I could cut it on her way to the airport... I told her that I could not. She got to NYC, called me and asked how much I charged her for the last bridge that I cut, and it was $150+the blank. The guy in NYC wanted $350, and wouldn't touch it for $150.

Point is, it varies based on where you are and who does it. No solid answer can be given.

Edited: September 13, 2025, 5:31 AM · Bridge cutting is another mysterious art that some would argue is crucial in optimising a violin's tone and playability. As usual my position was sceptical until a few weeks ago when a luthier living locally to me demonstrated the difference between two bridges he had cut to fit the same violin. He didn't disclose exactly how he arrived at the better solution (one factor was certainly the thickness) but he convinced me that it's worth spending time and money on.
