Double dotting

Edited: September 6, 2025, 10:35 AM · Should the second beat of m. 1 Haydn C major violin concerto be double dotted? I have listened to several recordings and some do, some don't.

September 6, 2025, 1:15 PM · I think that a tilt toward over-dotting would be welcome. Rather than get too precise, the aim should be to keep the phrase alive harmonically and not get bogged down in the tune. Also, there is a lot of other dotted writing in that movement. Do we really want all of it to be strict 3:1?
