What bow would you like?

October 18, 2022, 11:55 AM · Harmless and fun question!
If you could choose a top example bow by one of the following masters, which would you like?

Persoit, FX Tourte, D. Pecatte, J. Henry, P. Simon, Sartory, EA Ouchard, Kittel, Pajeot, Eury, Maire, Hills, Tubbs, Voirin etc etc??

October 18, 2022, 12:09 PM · The one that will make play me like Heifetz or Milstein. Seriously, I suppose a nice Sartory, the one that Ysaye used, would do.
Edited: October 18, 2022, 1:07 PM · I play a Hill that is perhaps wasted on me, but the name didn't have any particular meaning to me when I tried it. Instead, I picked it up, put it to my violin, and it coyly whispered in my ear, "baby, I want to be yours, but it won't be cheap".

Hill was a big company anyway, so my Malcolm Taylor bow probably has little do with some other maker from the outfit.

I would be curious to try other bows just to see what they do or don't.

I do recall 10 minutes with a Peccatte, though, which worked magic on an intermittently great but insanely picky violin. Back when such things cost $6,000.

Edited: October 19, 2022, 9:21 AM · My Charles Peccatte bow has been my arm and shoulder " saviour" for the last 21 years. We' re playing Mendelssohns' Elijah this week with all it's nasty bowing issues. Its just so much easier to endure this piece with a good stick in your right hand.
As for a " dream" bow,a dealer lent me a Pajeot, Henry and Simon bow for the weekend. The Charles Peccatte was kind of close to them except the Henry which towered over everything.
October 18, 2022, 6:12 PM · As long as we’re fantasizing, I will take one of each!
October 18, 2022, 8:12 PM · That's a great idea John, but why not take 10 of each ;), and the tortoiseshell and ivory mounted ones too
October 18, 2022, 9:23 PM · A Dominique Peccatte, but my teacher tells me that I'd like a Kittel. I've never had opportunity to try one.
October 18, 2022, 11:28 PM · I briefly played an FX Tourte before. Based on the sound alone, it's the one to die for. The gold Sartory side by side was inferior, though it's still a heck of a bow, well balanced and strong, with crisp articulation.
