Bow technician in NJ ?

October 7, 2006 at 04:16 AM · I live in Rockland county, about 50 minutes from NYC's music district. I know I can find excellent techs there for rehairing and such, but it is such a hassle to go, and with gas prices these days...

Are there any REALLY competent techs living in Bergen County or perhaps even Rockland?

-While we're at it, any good violin makers or retail shops that can be trusted?

Looks like I'll have to hit Manhattan after all.

October 8, 2006 at 02:04 AM · I think it is pretty obvious...............

October 8, 2006 at 08:21 PM · There are several members of the American Federation Of Violin And Bowmakers in New Jersey:

Bob Ames

547 Main Street

Fort Lee, NJ 07024

(201)461-1020

www.tourte.com

John Aniano

17 Hutchinson Road

Allentown, NJ 08501

(609)758-2422

www.jbabows.com

Ron Forrester

116 Featherbed Lane

Hopewell, NJ 08525

(609)466-3571

Hans J. Nebel

35 North Colonial Drive

Harrington Park, NJ 07640-1061

(201)767-3057

I can personally recommend Bob Ames, and have confidence that any of the other members of the Federation listed above will be more than capable of providing you with the highest standard of bow rehairs, without your having to make a trip into NYC.

Feel free to email me if you have specific questions about Bob Ames or the NYC ateliers, most of which I am quite familiar with.

Regards,

Al

I'll contact Bob Ames tomorrow. He is fairly close by, so a no-brainer.
