I live in Rockland county, about 50 minutes from NYC's music district. I know I can find excellent techs there for rehairing and such, but it is such a hassle to go, and with gas prices these days...
Are there any REALLY competent techs living in Bergen County or perhaps even Rockland?
-While we're at it, any good violin makers or retail shops that can be trusted?
I think it is pretty obvious...............
There are several members of the American Federation Of Violin And Bowmakers in New Jersey:

John Aniano

Hans J. Nebel

I can personally recommend Bob Ames, and have confidence that any of the other members of the Federation listed above will be more than capable of providing you with the highest standard of bow rehairs, without your having to make a trip into NYC.
Feel free to email me if you have specific questions about Bob Ames or the NYC ateliers, most of which I am quite familiar with.
Regards,
Al
Thanks, Al!
I'll contact Bob Ames tomorrow. He is fairly close by, so a no-brainer.
