Are there any recordings of people playing the Cannone on the market? I've heard there is supposed to be one by Accardo, but don't know which recording is the one, he has several with Deutsche Grammaphon playing Paganini, but no mention of which violin he uses. Then there is one by Regina Carter (jazz) on the Cannone. Any others that people are aware of?
What about Quarta's recordings of the caprices. Cannon, or not? And where's the proof?
Clare, I think you mean this...

That's an Accardo recording on the Cannon.
Thanks Kenny, I couldn't find it on Amazon and now I know about iClassics. For Massimo Quarta's, I did a search and found that there is a boxed set with the 6 concertos at buy.com.

Also Aldo Ferraresi wonderful recording of "Le Streghe" and "Nel con più non mi sento" Variations was performed with Il Cannone: see CD IDIS 6366
Massimo Quarta has recorded two sets of Paganini caprices, the latter one with the Cannon. He has also recorded several Paganini concerti with the Cannon.

I have one of the Quarta caprices. It sounds like a Strad to me, not the cannon.
What is the catalog # of the caprices recorded on the cannon? Thanks.
Do not forget Regina Carter's CD, After Paganini, recorded on Il Cannone. A bit different from other recordings since she is a jazz violinist.
i believe it's mentioned in the original post...
I believe that some of these recordings

were made with the Canon. I'm not sure if the Accardo one was, or just the older ones. I should look when I'm around my code. It is interesting, but the sound quality on the older ones is medium-low, as it is a recorded transatlantic shortwave broadcast (!). Actually, given that, it's amazing.
PS I have two of the Quarta concerti CDs, and I can vouch for their quality. The cd with the D major (e flat major on that cd) is particularly amazing. I can't wait to get his capricci on the canon.
I don't see anywhere on Quarta's site where it states that he is playing the Cannon on either recording of the caprices. Help?
I own the latest recording and it does not state anywhere on the inside cover.

Jacob-
Thank you. Like I said, I own this recording, and it doesn't state on the jacket, in the jacket, etc., that Quarta is using the Cannon. I'm certainly not denying it. I'm glad to have found the info. But who wrote this info?
I swear it sounds more soprano than the fiddle in the Pag. concerti. And I have incredible Mackie studio monitor speakers. Maybe it's hard to tell because the recording has a lot of reverb. I think I need to listen to it again. Thanks so much.
I had the impression the concerti were on the Canon and the Caprices weren't. I have a pair of Quads for sale. The speakers, not the muscles.
Jim--
I had the same impression. How are we going to get to the bottom of this?
All right, somebody email Quarta please!
If you can't hear the difference why do you want recordings of different violins?
No, it was not recorded on a Guarneri, but on a Strad.
original post deleted, as it was unnecessary.
Well I liked it.
Thanks, Jim. But it was just my ego responding. I'm trying to be a better person. :)
Maybe I ought to be one too... :)
HIllary Hahn plays on a copy of Il Cannone by villaume i think. It is a copy of Il cannone. I m not sure who made it
Greetings,

Mattias. Don`t be a bette rperson. Just don`t get caught...
Your ever helpful dad,

that question is only answered `in camera`
A picture is worth a couple dozen words so...
I had to investigate the Regina Carter connection and came up with this NPR program with excerpts from the CD. Very interesting; worth listening to the whole seven minutes or so. Also, Paganini had another violin or two, which I hear are actually in circulation, in the hands of deserving people.

LOL in the interview Regina Carter said Paganini's music was "baroque".
No,no, she said Paganini was "broke." Anyway...listen to Miles Davis try to talk sometime. lol. Even more reason to love it.
Old man - you responded 2 years and 29 days after I wrote it... Well, I havn't gotten any better :)
Another vote to Massimo Quarta playing the Cannone. The Cannone is not a violin to all violinists, it needs the proper bowing to master it, it's a "difficult" violin.
Greetings,
>Well, I havn't gotten any better :)
Try hanging out with the wrong people...
Cheers,
buri
The second Renardy recording (Remington) of the Caprices was done on the Cannon Joseph.
LOL I had to delet this message because no one would understand it
In 1969 Accardo recorded the Barucabá var.
on Paganini's Guarnieri
