Hi guys: Has anyone here tried the new Wondertone Solo violin E from Pirastro yet?
Wonder how it compares to the Kaplan Golden Spiral E... And I haven't tried the Westminister yet...So many Es on the market LOL.
A copy of the description from the official site:
It is our aim to surpass our success of the Wondertone Gold Label E strings: Wondertone Solo E string.
This E string consists of a new material that improves significantly the playability and the sound of E strings. The Wondertone Solo E has an outstanding sound volume and impressive power. Very often there is a metallic edge in other plain steel E strings’ sound. In contrary, the Wondertone Solo E has a wonderful warm sound when playing pianissimo and is impressive brilliant in the higher registers. The string has a very fast response over the whole dynamic range and is also non-whistling. Available in gauge 0.26 mm and 0.267 mm.
I tried the wondertone 0.26mm. It is very good I believe but with my violin doesn't fit. It made very metalical sound. Well, I guess it is depends on instrument.
Well if they made it baed on the Gold Label than I am not surpised if it sounds metallic... Any other experiences?
I tried the new Wondertone Solo E and liked it alot. The pitch stability under varying bow pressures was excellent. It seemed to respond to a lighter bow pressure than did other E strings. It's an excellent string in my opinion, but different violins can respond quite differently to the same string. (Not to speak of various personal tastes among individual violinists.) The only way to know how you will like it is to try one on your violin.
So did anyone experience any warmer E sound as claimed?
It was a warmer sound, but it lacks projection. It does not do well in high positions :( Every other solo ending in Wieniawski #2 3rd mvt is in, like, 13th position, and the Wondertone Solo keeps on squeaking. I dont think they project well. They do good during pianissimo tho... :)
