I will be attending the BUTI String Quartet Workshop and the orchestra program this summer, and will be studying with Bayla Keyes at BU next year. If anyone has any advice/info on what to expect at Tanglewood, BU, or have worked with Bayla Keyes before, I would appreciate any input!
Bayla Keyes is wonderful!!! (musically, and on a personal level) My only personal experience with her was in Masterclasses when she was still with the Muir quartet. My current teacher worked with Bayla Keyes more extensively, and absolutely idolizes her. And I idolize my teacher... so hopefully that's a good sign. :-)
I hope BU is a "good experience" kind of place... I'll be attending in the fall as well! (not for traditional "modern" violin, for historical performance M.M.)
Bayla is an absolute treasure as a player, a coach & a person according to a lot of amateur chamber musicians I know in the Boston area. I try to go to her trio’s concerts when I’m there & I’m very sorry I didn’t get to hear her perform the Brahms concerto last year.
Hi! I will be a freshman at BU next year as well, also studying with Bayla Keyes. All I can really tell you is that I've enjoyed my experiences with her thus far. As for what to expect, well, you can expect to meet me... other than that, I don't know. I'm a little concerned about BU housing, though I guess it's better than at NEC.
I see that you're from Interlochen. Do you know Tim Singer?
I'll be looking forward to meeting you in person in just a few months...yay:) I've heard only awesome stuff about Ms. Keyes so I'm really hyped about that.
I know who Tim is but not personally-he's the roomie of a good friend of mine. Is he from your hometown?
Yes, Tim has been one of my best friends since we were 7th graders.
I look forward to meeting you in the fall!
Hi, I did BUTI String Quartet Workshop several summers ago...I had a blast and have nothing but good things to say about it. Bayla Keyes is awesome, and you get 3-4 hours of coaching a DAY at BUTI (then again, that's why it's a thousand dollars a week to go there...), so it's really intense and I learned SO much about playing in quartets. It was my first real chamber music experience, and the only thing that was a letdown was that subsequent experiences weren't as good because I had too much fun at BUTI ;) The concerts at Tanglewood are awesome, you get to see so many famous people.
