What are your personal opinions on these strings? I am considering giving them a try..
I am currently using the Piastro Olives (just to give them a try for a while)... The Olives are good - but are very hard to work with. Plus they go out of tune very easily...
So I was looking at Synthetic strings to see what they offer. Corelli seems the most interesting to me..... Any other suggestions?
May I bump this thread to read peoples' opinions about Corelli Alliance Vivace strings today? Thread-recycling. :)
Thank you.
I'm on a super tight budget, and I have grown really angry with Dominants lately. I think I'm just in need of a switch.
I too am interested in the the Corelli Alliance Vivace - what about the cheaper Corelli Crystals, while we're at it?
Bump?
I'm using Corelli Crystals currently and I really like them. They're fairly low tension, mellow, warm, only a hint of brilliance, not much in the way of overtones, but just enough as far as I can tell - mostly traits that are opposite of what a typical soloist might be after, but a bullseye for chamber work and anything else requiring a soft and laid-back sound. I give 'em two thumbs up.
In their price range, Corelli Crystals are my favorite strings for both violin and viola. For me they have always been well-behaved, long-lasting, warm and dark. I have always preferred them to Dominants which sound too edgy for my taste. Of course, your instrument may respond differently.
Great input, but I think this thread is meant for Alliance Vivace...
Well, if Christopher can re-cycle a 2004 thread in 2009, then I can resurrect the conversation in 2010....
Christopher, my comment on Crystals was in response to Luke's inquiry about them earlier in the thread.
In the past year, I can say that a friend of mine found that Alliance Vivace really brought a remarkable clarity to her instrument. (Her preferred string up to that point had been Crystals.) Also in the past year, I have found that Vivace C-G-D work well on my viola in addition to a Larsen A. I'm planning a head-to-head test against Evahs (eventually on my violin, too) and will report the outcome.

August 8, 2004 at 08:03 AM · I've tried them after using Obligatos, the E string though gave out within days for me. Probably because they gave me the old stock version of the E string, so I switched to the Oliv gold plated E string which gave a whole new better sound to the other strings. To me, the sound of these strings were vibrant and complex, I think, gave me more to work with...meaning I could dig in and get lots of sound out of it. It is a high-tensioned string. I liked it, lasted pretty long too. I installed them in February and still have them on now. Of course it needs to be changed now after going through so much. I'm still experimenting with other brands. My next one will be the Evah Pirazzi. I've always been meaning to try these but I've been putting it off for others. Also the fact that I usually give atleast 4 months to change the set I have on, makes my experiment slow.
