I just started working on the Mozart G major (#3) and I need to pick the cadenzas I'm going to do. I have the Ysaye cadenzas but I really don't like them. I don't care about the difficulty of the cadenzas because all that I'm looking for is that they stay in the character of Mozart.(Ex: I found the Ysaye cadenzas much to romantic.)
Hey Ryan, why don't you try writing your own! I stopped playing the Ferdinand David cadenza because of the reason you mentioned, although last time I heard Mutter play this piece, she was still playing David cadenza (like Zuckerman on his CD). I like Franco Gulli's cadenzas because they sound like Italian Mozart (which I think Mozart would have loved!) So I wrote my own. Hey, maybe I could post it somewhere...I also just noticed I have Oistrakh's cadenzas, but they are romantic too. Good for a competition to show what u can do, but not for a concert if it is really about Mozart's music.

So here are my cadenzas for Mozart G-major concerto. The first movement is very modest, like the the piece itself. I got more into it in the 2nd movement. Let me know what you think. If you play them, give me credit!
Chris
ooops, Christina, did I mean Franko and not David??? Starts with this nice passage in double stops with dissonances??
Franco.
Franco?
if you're referring to he spelling, it's definitely Franko. Sam Franko
yes the cadenza begins with double stops... a major 3rd of g (sul D) & b (sul A) followed by a major 2nd of g & a
Ysaye
Christopher,
Awesome Cadenzas! Very original and they really are alot more Mozartish then the Ysaye cadenzas.
What are your thoughts on the Kreisler and Auer cadenzas?
Gilles Apap :)

Franz Beyer's is nice. Try the Frank Peter Zimmerman recording on EMI.

March 10, 2004 at 02:14 PM · I liked the Franko cadenza for the first movement so much that I ended up limiting my choice of recordings of this concerto to ones that used that cadenza. It's included in the Schirmer edition.
