I'm looking at purchasing a new instrument in the DFW area. I unfortunately can't travel out to Albuquerque so it has to stay in Dallas.
I am looking in the $4000 - $6000 range and hopefully something with some age to it, but at my price range, I don't know how likely that will be.
Ryan:
The three shops that I know are:
Jay Rury, East of Central behind TI near Richardson. (Exit and right onto Spring Valley, Right onto Sherman.)
Williamson Music, East of central in Plano just north of Plano Parkway.
Dallas Violins, East of Central in Allen on Mc Dermitt just beyond the unused railroad crossing.
Jay is a luthier who works mainly on handmade violins and also has instruments, bows and supplies available.
Williamson and Dallas Violins supply the student market with some nice violins available. They both have good repair departments.
Depending on my needs, I will readily trade with them all.

You mention Albuquerque. Both David Brewer Violins and Robertson & Sons will ship violins for you to try.
