Good violin case

January 21, 2017 at 05:51 AM · Whats the best quality case to get around $150? Is the fiddlershop violin case good? Or the American Eagle style case?

January 21, 2017 at 06:48 AM · You could try the Bobelock cases. The non-suspension ones cost around $150.

January 21, 2017 at 02:39 PM · I wouldn't recommend buying a case without suspension. Spend $200 and you can get a nice Bobelock with suspension.

January 22, 2017 at 12:45 AM · I second Lydia's recommendation. I have used Bobelock suspension cases for years for my violin and viola.

January 22, 2017 at 02:01 AM · Another vote for Bobelock.

For $150, you can get a Bobelock half-moon shape with suspension. For a little more, $165, you can get an oblong. Shop around.

January 22, 2017 at 02:59 AM · Embassy Courier violin case at SHAR, $149. This is a strong wood case with suspension and handy compartments to hold music, shoulder rest, etc.; also contains a hygrometer, humidifier, and a thick blanket & silk bag. You can spend much more and get a much less well-built case!

January 22, 2017 at 09:16 AM · May I support the recommendation for Bobelock at this price point. I would go for suspension and PLYWOOD construction.

Cheers Carlo

January 22, 2017 at 01:39 PM · Carlo is right -- definitely plywood. I'd stay away from the Embassy cases, based on what I've seen from their longevity. A student of mine purchased one and it literally started falling apart within a year.

January 22, 2017 at 04:47 PM · Well, I have had my Courier plywood $149 case for two years and it looks like new. Leo, did you buy a violin yet?? Waiting to hear...

January 23, 2017 at 10:00 PM · My vote is for the Fiddlerman case. Really good quality and happy with it. Have used both the Bobelock and Fiddlerman style cases. The Fiddlerman case was better value for the $$ imo.

January 24, 2017 at 02:08 AM · Violin cases are a special kind of accessory. Rarely in the making of fine things does one boast of using plywood. Having said that, insist on it in your kitchen cabinets. (The alternative is MDF -- worthless.)

January 24, 2017 at 03:24 AM · Do you mean that one SHOULD get a plywood violin case? Your post is so subtle...

February 13, 2017 at 04:48 AM · How rough are you? Do you live in the north? The better lightweight foam cases provide plenty of shock protection and insulate better , but the good plywood cases can take more abuse. At that price, don't get plastic or fiberglass imho.

February 13, 2017 at 02:54 PM · Hi Guys,

I am looking for a violin case too. Since this is the same topic I'd like to hop on.

I have a good violin so I want to protect it well when traveling. My current case is a Chinese made plywood case. It's heavy and all little accessories like the cheap hygrometer and the rubber on the handles was failing apart, but like many of you said, it had been good for the last ten years structurally and I think it will last many more years. It protects my violin well.

Can the lighter case last long and endure abuse just as well? I've heard they are more waterproofed than plywood one though I didn't have any water problem with mine. I want to take my violin to trips so I want to find something lighter, maybe around 1.2 kg.

I've heard of BAM. It's expensive but is it durable? Or do you have any suggestion?
