Where is the best violin school in London?

January 16, 2016 at 09:21 PM · Hello everyone!

In your opinion, where is the best violin school? At the Royal academy of music or at the Royal college of music?

I accepted in MA in both. But I find it hard to make a choice.

Which professors/teachers do you recommend?

Thank you!

Each teacher has their own strengths and weaknesses. RCM has Messenger, Rakowski, Korfker and Zivoni all great individuals. You may consider requesting a lesson with somebody you think you'd like based on their bios, the youtube videos and the likes and they can also not take you as well for any reasons.

You can also check their facilities out and how up to date they are and the offerings around there. I'm impartial to RCM but RAM is also a top notch school.

Unfortunately I can't come before my study and can't be sure what's the difference between them. However I'd like to know where did you find more comfortable atmosphere and interesting student life? (including events, master classes, concerts e.t.c)

January 19, 2016 at 10:52 PM · Greetings,

I am a graduate of the RCM from amny years back. Its in a womderful part of London and you can nip over the road and take a walk in the park when you are stressed out. in my last year they they coleted a small concert hall, opera theater and they stage a good numbe rof events there with some very greta players and teachers.. In my day it was slightly skewed towards the piano but it sbifted dramatically towards a very Rusian line up in recent years. I have first hand accounts of what a wonderful teacher Korfker is, if you can get him.

Chamber music was quite hard to organize in my day but thaat may have changed.

I dont know much about the RAM except by heresay. It seemed to be a little more violin focused and intense in those days. Its smaller and slightly more incestuous I think.

Of the teacher sthere, Gruenberg is one of the greatest and most knowledgeable teachers around. i studied with him briefly. Rodney Freind seemed to have moved to the Academy too. He wa sat RCM in my day. A phenominal teacher and ,usician , a bit intimidating personality wise for some people. He has a very individula syle of playing which may not suit everyone. He does have students hols the violin more to the front and use a pad whenever possible. The only trouble with this great taeche ris he was always off doing concerts so his students tended ot get six lessons at the end of term., kind of thing. Maybe he has cut back a bit now. I dont know.

I do have a very specific recomendation for a very specifc reason as to which you should choose. However, it is jot something I wish to say in public so if you are interested please feel free to mail me.

Cheers,

Buri
