Hi!
Recently I am looking for a lightweight, oblong case to interchange with my 5-year old Bobelock halfmoon fiberglass case. The reason is that my old case is too heavy for me to carry around campus/town to the point my right shoulder hurt after 10 minutes of carrying it. I was tempted to buy Bobelock's backpack straps but read some mixed reviews about it. Also, it lacks storage so I'm opting for an oblong case.
I am still keeping my old case because it comes with a cushioned bag, which is handy for winter. But for everyday walks to the campus/town, I need a lightweight one with a good backpack system.
So far I've narrowed it down to two cases: the GEWA Atlanta (http://www.johnsonstring.com/cgi-bin/music/scripts/violin-viola-cello-music.cgi?itemno=CSVNGE319V/1BU&action=2&srch=Gewa%20Violin%20Case)
and Jakob Winter's Super Light (http://www.jakobwinter.de/en/string-instrument-case/violin-case/violin-case-super-light/JW_3024_3030_3032_violin_case_super-light.php).
Anyone of you experienced these cases? I am leaning towards the GEWA one because it's cheaper ($230 from violin channel) compared to the Jakob Winter ($429 in shar). BAM cases are too expensive and bare for me. I was also looking at American Case Company's Continental case, but 8 lbs will be heavy.
Thanks and I hope to hear some suggestions from the community!
Don't know about the GEWA, but I do own the Winter case you linked, and I love it. Not a Musafia of course, but a good quality case nonetheless - and I wouldn't compromise my violin's safety either.
I'd be very tempted to check out one of these:

I think it would make transport a lot easier.
Storage will be an issue with most lighter cases.

Although I understand the challenge of carrying a bit heavier case (especially in public transit!), I would never compromise my violin's safety over my personal convenience. It helps to carry a viola and walk along a cellist to understand how violin is in fact - light.
