Gliga Violin

July 8, 2015 at 01:14 AM · I have a Gliga violin with the label inside marked Christian Gliga 2010. Anyone knows if the violin is made by Christian Gliga himself? Anyone knows if he is actually a luthier? The violin has a certificate of authenticity.

I have a Cristian Gliga violin made in 2001. I think they use the name to designate certain models. If he is a luthier, judging by my violin, he's not very good. Bad bridge, horrendous planing of the fingerboard, badly fit pegs. If I were a luthier, I would never allow an instrument like the one I have to go out. If it were my workshop, I would not have let an instrument go out in that condition.

July 10, 2015 at 04:35 PM · Thank you Leon for the interesting feedback. I say interesting because I took my violin for sound post adjustment to a local luthier and she said the workmanship of my violin is neat and it is made with good selection of wood but it is very heavy. She suggested to change the ebony accessories like the chin rest and pegs to boxwood and reduce the fine tuners to one. The model of my violin is Ceruti, so I doubt that Christian Gliga is just a model name. Again I am not sure.

The ceruti cost more than twice what mine did. That is probably why there is a difference in build quality. I was also advisd to use lighter accessories. I'm having a new bridge put on now, so I'll wait and see if that helps. Taking off the fine tuners on mine improved the sound somewhat.

The label inside mine is signed Criststian Gliga But doesn't say what model.

The confusion can come from the inversion of family & given names: e.g. "Gliga Vasili violin" or "Gliga Christian violin" make us wonder if they are different models.
