I'm trying to find a backpack that will carry all of the following:
- An orchestra folder
- Other music (at least a one-inch-high stack, more preferred)
- A folding music stand
- A small portable gig light (like a Lampcraft Fermata)
- An iPad
If it can also hold a 13" Macbook Air laptop, even better. It would be nice if there were room for a portable metronome as well.
If that backpack can also hold the violin case securely (I have a Musafia Aeternum), so much the better. I saw this on Shar: http://www.sharmusic.com/Cases-Bags/Violin/Joey-Violin-Case-Carrier.axd
Any experiences with that product or similar ones? Or backpacks suitable for the list above? The standard laptop backpacks I own are too short to hold even a small folding music stand (like a Hamilton).
The Joey is interesting but does it only fit oblong violin cases?
I've just examined my Joey, and I think it should work with a dart case, but I haven't tried it, because all my cases are oblong. The way it works is you put your violin case in there, and then you tighten the straps (2" nylon straps) so that the case is held very snugly. The design seems to be more focused on getting that snugness than your violin case needing to conform to a specifically shaped compartment.

It will handle your packing list. The violin rides up kind of high behind your head, something to get used to.
