Hi guys I noticed this white stuff on my new violin and am wondering if anyone here can let me know what it is.
As you see in the image, the white thing is located on the C bout where it joins the top plate.
It is smooth and flush with the wood and cannot be wiped off with a cloth.
much appreciated.

Thank you so much for the read.
I had suspected that it was probably due to varnish or dried glue.
The read was interesting i didnt know that a violin could be artificially antiqued. - wonder what to look out for for my next violin.
Anyhow, i was told by a friend of mine who plays that it is probably that the white stuff was due to the humidity. And since i had recently put a dampit in my violin case i have decided to remove it and observe.
Additionally i guess i shall just have to watch out for the other stuff mentioned in the post about too much rosin(which i doubt) and seams opening.
Thank you again
