One of my students needs a good beginning scale book to go along with his Suzuki book and a few others. Any suggestions? I've been looking at "Viola Time Scales" and Applebaum's Scales for Strings but online, they don't show more than 2 pages and it's hard to tell what they'll be like.

Classic scale study books have been modified for viola. I think there is one based on Hrimaly. Also there is one based on Flesch but that obviously is much more advanced.

March 26, 2014 at 09:02 PM · Hans Sitt's Practical Viola Method is pretty hard to beat, for presenting 2-octave scales in all keys in half through sixth positions, interspersed with short etudes to put the scale material into a musical context.
